Chase flags limited JFK lounge operations as cardholder access complaints resurface

The issuer’s JFK page carries an operating advisory, while renewed community complaints leave exact restrictions and timing unresolved.

TL;DR

Chase’s JFK Sapphire Lounge page currently says “Temporarily limited operations.” An October 16, 2026 community discussion renews complaints about cardholder admission, but does not establish a new blanket access ban or a dated policy change. Check your trip’s access details and plan an alternative.

  • The official advisory is confirmed; its start date, end date and precise restrictions are not stated.
  • Community explanations about Etihad priority remain reports, not a newly verified issuer rule.

What is confirmed

Chase’s location page for the Sapphire Lounge by The Club with Etihad Airways at JFK lists daily hours of 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. and a temporary limited-operations notice. The lounge is in Terminal 4 near gate A2. The page does not explain what the limitation changes for a particular visit.

Separately, Chase’s JFK access guide still describes access for Sapphire Reserve cardmembers, Sapphire Reserve for Business primary cardmembers rather than employee cards, and J.P. Morgan Reserve cardmembers through their complimentary Priority Pass Select membership. A listed benefit and an operating advisory need to be read together when planning a trip.

Why travelers are discussing it again

An October 16, 2026 Reddit thread revived frustration about being refused entry to a lounge carrying the Chase name. Commenters discuss Etihad passengers receiving priority and question the benefit’s value when admission is uncertain. Those accounts describe user friction; they do not independently verify the operator’s full admission policy.

A similarly titled historical thread already exists. We have not verified when the newer post’s image was taken. Its publication date should therefore not be presented as the date a new restriction began. Nor does the official advisory establish that every eligible Chase cardholder is being refused.

Who should care

This matters most to travelers who plan meals, work time or a connection around JFK lounge access, and to cardholders weighing a renewal based on that airport. A lounge can remain a listed card benefit while offering less dependable practical value on a particular trip. Keep eligibility, current operations and an individual denial separate in your notes.

What to do before departure

  • Check the current JFK location notice and your card-specific lounge details in the Chase app before leaving for the airport.
  • Confirm the credential, boarding-pass and itinerary requirements shown for your card; ask about current restrictions rather than assuming published hours guarantee entry.
  • Identify an alternative lounge or meal option you can actually use. If refused, note the date, time and stated reason before contacting the operator or Chase.

Sources and unresolved questions

Official pages and community discussions were reviewed on October 17, 2026. Chase’s public advisory does not give restriction hours or a recovery date. We could not establish a new universal Etihad-priority rule, the reason for a specific denial, or a change to benefits across other Sapphire Lounge locations.
