Walmart+ and Sam’s Club Plus Bundle: Check Your Amex Credit Before Switching
The new annual membership changes the value calculation for Amex users because switching ends the monthly Walmart+ statement credit.
TL;DR
Walmart launched a $120 annual Walmart+ with Sam’s Club Plus plan on October 20, 2026. Its official FAQ says Amex Platinum and Business Gold users who switch to the annual bundle will no longer receive Walmart+ monthly statement credits. Check your current plan before changing it.
- The combined plan is annual-only; existing Sam’s Club Plus primary members can activate Walmart+ at no additional cost.
- The $22 upgrade price is for existing Walmart+ annual members, not a promise for Amex-funded monthly memberships.
- Count the household’s incremental savings once when reviewing card value.
What changed
Walmart and Sam’s Club now offer both memberships together for $120 a year, plus applicable tax. The change took effect October 20, 2026, and may matter most to households already paying for both services.
For cardholders, the billing plan is the key distinction. Walmart’s eligibility FAQ names American Express Platinum and American Express Business Gold and says switching to the annual combined plan ends their Amex statement credits. The warning concerns the plan switch; it does not announce an end to the existing monthly Walmart+ card benefit.
Compare your current membership first
| Category | Current situation | Official path or consequence |
|---|---|---|
| New member | Neither membership | Combined annual plan: $120 plus applicable tax. |
| Walmart+ annual member | Pays annually already | Add Sam’s Club Plus for $22 more a year. |
| Sam’s Club Plus primary member | Already has Plus | Activate included Walmart+ at no additional cost; link the accounts. |
| Amex monthly-credit user | Platinum or Business Gold pays monthly Walmart+ | Switching to the combined annual plan ends Amex monthly statement credits. |
These are different enrollment paths. An upgrade price advertised to annual members should not be used to estimate the cost of changing a monthly membership paid with an eligible Amex card.
Who should care
A household already keeping Sam’s Club Plus may gain little extra value from counting Walmart+ again as a card perk. Someone who uses Walmart delivery regularly and does not need a warehouse membership may reach a different conclusion. Compare the membership you would actually buy, rather than adding every advertised benefit value.
The included Walmart+ access is for the primary Sam’s Club Plus member; benefits sharing has separate terms. Walmart says most members paying for both memberships may qualify for a prorated Walmart+ refund, but the FAQ also says partner-funded benefits are not refundable by Walmart. Confirm the treatment of your own plan before relying on any refund.
Before you switch
- Check whether Walmart+ bills monthly or annually, whose account holds Sam’s Club Plus, and the next renewal date.
- Review the enrollment screen’s final price and save the plan-change terms before confirming.
- If an Amex card currently reimburses the monthly fee, compare the annual bundle’s actual out-of-pocket cost with keeping that setup.
- In your benefit tracker, count overlapping membership and streaming access once; record the change date and review the next bill.
