TL;DR

Chase Sapphire Preferred cardholders get new earn categories, credits, and protections on June 15, 2026, but existing cardholders should track October 1, 2026 for Hyatt transfer and anniversary-bonus changes.

What changed

Chase announced a broad refresh of the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, with new benefits starting June 15, 2026 and no change to the $95 annual fee. The positive side is straightforward: new 3x categories for gas, EV charging, and vacation homes, a $100 Chase Travel hotel credit each account anniversary year, a Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or NEXUS credit of up to $120 every four years, added emergency evacuation and transportation coverage, and a one-year Apple TV subscription when activated by December 31, 2026.

The tradeoff matters for points-focused cardholders. Chase says Sapphire Preferred Ultimate Rewards points will transfer to World of Hyatt at a 4:3 rate instead of 1:1. For current Sapphire Preferred cardholders who opened before June 15, 2026, the new Hyatt ratio starts October 1, 2026. For people who apply on or after June 15, 2026, the 4:3 ratio applies immediately.

The easiest way to read the refresh is as a list of new benefits, plus two value reductions current cardholders should calendar.

Who should care

This is most important if you use Sapphire Preferred as a practical travel card and not just a points-earning card. The new hotel credit, trusted-traveler credit, gas and EV earning, vacation-home earning, and emergency evacuation coverage are easy items to add to a benefits tracker because each one has a timing rule, an eligibility rule, or both.

It also matters if Hyatt transfers are a major part of your Chase strategy. A 4:3 transfer rate means 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points become 750 World of Hyatt points. Current cardholders still have a window before October 1, 2026, but after that date the math changes unless they also hold a card that still supports 1:1 Hyatt transfers.

Dates to track

June 15, 2026 is the start date for the new Sapphire Preferred benefits. Add the new gas and EV charging earn rate, vacation-home earn rate, $100 Chase Travel hotel credit, trusted-traveler credit, Apple TV activation item, and emergency evacuation coverage to your tracker as separate benefits instead of treating the refresh as one generic card update.

October 1, 2026 is the date current Sapphire Preferred cardholders should mark for the Hyatt transfer and 10% anniversary-bonus changes. Chase says existing cardholders continue to earn the 10% anniversary bonus on eligible purchases through October 1, 2026, with earned bonus points awarded by January 31, 2027.

What to do next

If you already have the Sapphire Preferred, review any planned Hyatt transfers before October 1, 2026 and verify the current transfer screen before moving points. Also separate the new benefits by cadence: the hotel credit is annual, the trusted-traveler credit is every four years, Apple TV has an activation deadline, and the earning categories matter only if the purchase actually codes correctly.

If you are deciding whether to keep the card, do not value every new perk at face value. The $100 hotel credit requires a Chase Travel hotel booking, the Apple TV benefit only helps if you activate and use it, and the Hyatt transfer cut may outweigh the additions for people who used Sapphire Preferred mainly as a Hyatt transfer card. A simple annual-fee review should compare natural use, not headline value.
