Amex Canada restricts Fixed Points Travel from January 6, 2027
Most cards lose the fixed-points flight option; listed premium cards retain phone booking, and Quebec points earned before the change receive special treatment.
TL;DR
From 2027-01-06, Amex Canada’s Fixed Points Travel program will be restricted to specified premium cards using Travel & Lifestyle Services by phone. Other cards lose access, subject to special treatment for Quebec residents’ previously earned points.
- Centurion, Platinum, Business Platinum and eligible enrolled Corporate Platinum cards retain a telephone channel.
- This is a Canadian flight-redemption change, separate from U.S. Membership Rewards pooling or airline-transfer rules.
What changed
Amex Canada’s Membership Rewards terms now set 2027-01-06 as the date when Fixed Points Travel becomes unavailable for cards outside a named premium-card exception. For the cards that retain it, digital booking ends and redemption continues only through Travel & Lifestyle Services by phone.
A cardholder’s October 16, 2026 statement report drew attention to the removal. The official terms on page 9 confirm a narrower outcome than a complete shutdown: eligibility and booking channel change together. The exact announcement day is not specified in the clause.
Who keeps access
| Category | Card or points group | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Centurion, The Platinum Card and The Business Platinum Card | Canadian cards listed in the exception | Fixed Points Travel remains by calling Travel & Lifestyle Services; digital access ends. |
| The Corporate Platinum Card | Only cards enrolled in the program governed by these terms | The same telephone-only exception applies; do not assume every corporate account qualifies. |
| Other cards | Outside the listed exception | Fixed Points Travel becomes unavailable, with the Quebec points protection below. |
| Quebec residents, outside the exception | Points earned before the effective date | The current online option ends, but equivalent redemption value remains through other Membership Rewards options; points earned after the date lose this program. |
Why this affects a redemption decision
Fixed Points Travel uses a set points amount toward an eligible flight’s base fare, within the program’s fare limits. Taxes, fees, carrier surcharges and amounts above the limit remain extra. Losing this option can change which card or redemption method suits an upcoming flight; retaining telephone access can also add booking friction.
The terms allow Amex to delay decommissioning temporarily without notice. That is not an announced extension with a replacement date. This clause does not announce an Aeroplan transfer-ratio cut, and it should not be applied to U.S.-issued Amex cards.
What to do next
- Check the exact Canadian card and rewards-program terms attached to your account.
- Compare available flight-redemption methods before making a booking; do not assume a headline guarantees a particular value per point.
- If you retain access, confirm the telephone process and any existing-reservation questions with Travel & Lifestyle Services. Quebec residents should ask how the protection applies to their prior points.
